STORY NO. 1 HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL:

'The Holocaust Memorial, inaugurated in Berlin in 2005, was designed by the American architect Peter Eisenman.

When Eisenman for the first time saw people walking into the memorial, he was amazed, seeing how their heads disappeared, like going under water. It reminded him of a passage from the book “If This Is a Man” by the Italian Jewish Primo Levi, who survived Auschwitz. Here, prisoners didn’t seem to be alive but they weren't dead either - just descending into a personal hell.

The memorial was never intended simply as a memorial, but also as a living expression of the German people to remind us all of the past; providing a haunting experience by its very juxtaposition within the heart of a thriving, modern capital city'.
